The Fast Effects of Fast Food!!

The Fast Effects of Fast Food!
Did you know that America is the most obese country in North America? An average adult is 26 pounds heavier now than in the 1950’s. From the rising rates of fast food chains, of it being one of the reasons of an unhealthy lifestyle, obesity today has now risen to having 35% of Americans being overweight, also having cheap ingredients, damages our bodies. We may not be the most obese country in the world, but we are certainly not too far off to being the most obese. The United States is ranked the #12 most obese country in the world. According to the World Atlas it explains, “The United States is the most obese country in North America with 35% of its population having a body max index of over 30.0 Nearly 78 million adults and 13 million children in the United States deal with the health and emotional effects of obesity every day.”

You would think that salad would be a healthier choice at a fast food restaurant, which isn’t always the case, also they use cheap ingredients. Some healthy food choices at fast food places, like a salad isn’t technically the best meal to get there. The American Heart Association says, “Even if you’re in good health, try to avoid poor food choices, especially the obvious culprits that are deep fried, swimming in cream or butter, showered in salt or glittering with sugar. Even a salad that may seem healthy is just a few dollops of fatty dressing away from being bad for your heart”. When you think of a healthy side dish, usually you would think of salad. Since we don’t like to eat just plain lettuce, we choose to dip it into sugary, gooey salad dressing to make it taste better. These dressings can contain many calories, and grams of sugars. AHA explains again, “A salad loaded with bacon, salty high-fat dressing and cheeses can have more calories than a hamburger or piece of thin-crust cheese pizza,” Van Horn said. So, if you’re on a diet, this “healthy choice” isn’t really helping you with your healthy lifestyle.

The reason why many people eat fast food is because it has low prices, therefore the chain buys cheap ingredients. Melinda Smith says, “The truth is that it’s extremely difficult to follow a healthy diet when you’re eating regularly at fast food restaurants. Fast food restaurants typically use the cheapest ingredients possible in order too keep costs down. That means that foods that otherwise could be considered healthy may not be when ordered from a fast food chain. For example, cheese can be a good source of protein and calcium, but the cheese topping your burger or covering your pizza is most likely heavily processed, made from non-dairy ingredients”. Considering the food is cheap, they would obviously use cheap ingredients. If they did have high prices, they would use better resources. Some of the ingredients they buy aren’t probably real, or even made correctly. Or maybe it is processed food, like from a can. You never know if the supplier cleaned it right or treated it correctly.

What are the effects of always eating fast food? There are many effects and illnesses that come with always eating fast food. Ann Pietrangelo, and Elea Carey explain, “Fast Foods often contain too many calories and too little nutrition. If fast food is a regular component of your diet, you might find yourself struggling with weight problems and ill health. One of the biggest effects of always eating fast food is obesity. Eating these non-nutrition foods that contain many calories and sugars can cause overweight problems. Pietrangelo, and Carey state, “These foods are often high in calories yet offer little or no nutritional value. When fast food frequently replaces nutritious foods in your diet, it can lead to poor nutrition, poor health, and weight gain. Tests in lab animals have even shown a negative effect in short duration diets. Being overweight is a risk factor for a variety of chronic health problems including heart disease, diabetes, and stroke”. Making the correct food choices, can really make a big difference in your health. Just a simple smoothie, or eating 5 small meals instead of 3 meals, can help-out with weight gain tremendously.

The effects of eating Fast Food are, extra calories, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, bloating and puffiness, blood sugar spike, and maybe death, and those are only half of them. You would rather have these deadly risks, than just make a healthy homemade meal? These are the worst the effects can get, also don’t forget the other one that can also cause death is obesity. If you are too overweight your body can just stop functioning. Again, Pietrangelo, and Carey explain “Obesity increases the likelihood of heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, diabetes, joint problems, and more”. Just from eating fast food twice a week, still can cause those problems. Susan Aldridge explains, “A 15-year study of 3000 Americans showed that people who consume fast food on a regular basis over a long time do have a greater tendency towards obesity and developing type 2 diabetes”. Yes, you can fix being obese, but sometimes you can’t help with the effects/risks you get.

Our fast food chains had doubled and so has our obesity. Having fast food chains and obesity doubled isn’t helping Americans with staying in shape. Pietrangel, and Carey, OAC state “The Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) reports that the number of fast food outlets has doubled since 1970, a period during which the number of obese Americans also doubled”. Having our world turn into a fast food ran earth, makes this situation even worse. Because now many people eat it for a quick meal. Having our fast food chains double isn’t a good thing because since there are so many around, people will just eat it now for no reason.

Why do people choose to eat fast food? So many people eat fast food, but why do they feel the need to hurt their bodies, maybe they just don’t know what is actually happening to them. Miranda Hitti states that, Nearly 600 adults and teens in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area were interviewed for the study in 2005-2006. Most reported eating fast food at least three times per week”.  After they were interviewed some of the answers that Hitti are, they’re quick, they’re easy to get to, I like the taste of fast food, they’re inexpensive, I’m too busy to cook. Some of these answers make sense, it’s like they don’t want to eat it, but they have on other choice. Many people struggle with money, or they are busy trying to make this money. But the ones that answer with I like the taste, is because they use many dangerous chemicals to make it taste a certain way.

The Fast Effects of Fast Food!

The Fast Effects of Fast Food!
Ann Pietrangelo in the article, The Effects of Fast Food on The Body (November 2, 2015), explains 13 effects that fast food has on your body. Pietrangelo supports her explanation by having it Medically Reviewed by George Krucik, MD, MBA. The author’s purpose is to inform many people in order to warn them about the health risks of always eating it. The author writes in an educational tone for fast food regulars.
Did you know that there are a lot of health risks/effects that can happen to your body by always eating fast food? A big problem in todays world is that our lives are very busy that we go the easy way out just to get food in our body, and we worry too much about getting things done that we forget to cook ourselves a healthy meal. So I am here to explain the harsh effects it has on your body. Eating fast food a lot can drop your blood sugar tremendously. Many fast foods and drinks are loaded with carbohydrates and, consequently, a lot of calories. Your digestive system breaks carbs down into sugar (glucose), which it then releases into your bloodstream. Your pancreas responds by releasing insulin, which is needed to transport sugar to cells throughout your body. As the sugar is absorbed, your blood sugar levels drop” (Pietrangelo). It can also cause skin problems, like acne, “Chocolate and greasy foods are often blamed for acne, but they’re not the real culprits. It’s carbs that are to blame. According to the Mayo Clinic, because foods that are high in carbohydrates increase blood sugar levels, they may also trigger acne” (Pietrangelo). Many others are dental distress, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and another big one which is weight problems. Now what we can do to stop these health risks is to actually find time to make yourself a good meal. Or add it to your errand list. Also you can get a whiteboard and hang it from your pantry door, and write what you are going to make for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the board to remind yourself/plan for the week, or just simply put it in your phone to alert you. To find out more about the problems with always eating Mcdonald’s or fast food in general is the movie ‘Super Size Me’, which shows what happens with his health/weight by doing a challenge of eating Mcdonald’s for 30 days straight.
